The Archaeological Museum is located in the capital of Lefkada. This museum houses a rich collection of archaeological findings that cover a long period. The collection includes tools, jewelery, pottery and bronze objects.
You will find in the main street of the old city, in the capital of Lefkada. You can see a large collection of gramophones and musical instruments, as well as other folk objects from daily life, cards, photographs, embroidery, jewelry, coins, tools and many decorative items.
Monastery of Odigitria
It is the oldest Byzantine, Christian monument that survived in Lefkada. Located near the village Apolpena, 2km south of the capital, it is kept in very good condition and inside you can admire unique frescoes. The value of the monastery is too large for the Christian community. It is believed to have been built in the 15th century and its architecture is royal.
Naos tou Pantokratora (Temple of the Almighty)
It is dominating the market in the center of the capital. Built in 1864 it belonged to the family of the famous poet Aristotelis Valaoritis. In this temple lies the tomb of the national poet. Inside, there are paintings of famous paintings and rare pictures.
The lagoon is located in the town of Lefkada and is classified as wetland with special ecological significance. It is a milestone for many rare birds including swans, herons, ducks, geese, gulls and kalimanes. In the lagoon you can also find ivari, which is a form of aquaculture. The scenery is truly breathtaking and well worth a visit.
Waterfalls of Akoni
The waterfalls of the grindstone are impressive and it is a very special location. Their beauty is mentioned several times in two of the greatest poet’s projects, Aggelos Sikelianos and Aristotle Balaoritis. Visit them to escape from the summer heat in an exotic environment.
Meganisi is a green island on the opposite side of Lefkada, on a short distance. It is full of olive trees, pines and craggy caves. The most famous cave is the cave Papanikolis the southwestern coast of the island, with a depth of 30 meters. According to tradition, Papanikolis was there hidden underwater, not discoverable enemies during the war.
Castle of Aghia Mavra
It was built around 1300 and is one of the most magnificent buildings of the medieval era. Located at the entrance of the island and was a protective bulwark against attacks by pirates and other enemies until 1684.
